As of January 12th, 2016 Microsoft is no longer supporting or supplying updates for all versions IE (Internet Explorer) browsers. They are pushing the launch of a completely revamped browser called Edge, however Edge is only available for download if you are running a minimum of Windows 10 operating system.
What does this mean for you?
Well it means that there are no longer going to be security patches available for IE with exception to IE 11, which is the final version of the IE browser however, available security updates for IE11 will only be targeted for Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10 operating systems.
If you are currently using any of these browsers, the issues you can expect to arise as a result of using unsupported browsers will be a lack of patches to protect sensitive and personal information on your computer, and protection from malware and viruses. This means everything from your browsing history, saved passwords, form cache and more are potentially exposed.
What You Can Do Today
There are a lot of other great browsers currently available for download such as Firefox by Mozilla, Chrome by Google, and Opera. All of these browsers are available for free download and takes only minutes to install.
Not Making the Switch? What You Can Expect to See
Eventually you will begin to see pop up alerts that will notify you that you’re running an unsupported version of Internet Explorer or alerts asking you to upgrade to the latest version. However, if no other version exists, eventually you will have no other choice but to download and install a new browser for your computer to get the full internet experience and security you’ve become used to.
Websites may fail to load correctly as time passes because developers will no longer be optimizing websites for IE. As far as design standards go, many companies will drop optimization of a website once the supplier of the browser drops support for that product. This means, that if you are continuing to use Internet Explorer you will begin running into a lot of usability issues that will limit the interaction you have with that web page.
